@realcaseyrollins Let this sink in:

ALM became a slogan because some people did not like hearing BLM. In other words, it is used as a way to deflect attention from BLM ... to say precisely Black people don't matter.

No, not everyone who uses it means that, but that's where the slogan came from and how it has been used most for the last several years.

@lnxw37a2 Well doesn't BLM "deflect attention" from the human rights of non-blacks? It seems like an appropriate response to me, esp. consider the disdain for whites that can be found among the camp.

@realcaseyrollins > Well doesn't BLM "deflect attention" from the human rights of non-blacks?

No, not at all. Their original purpose was to emphasize the disproportionate death rate of Blacks due to police violence, and that's all.

It has nothing to do with deflecting attention from others, just focusing attention where it is currently most needed.

> consider the disdain for whites that can be found

And that's unfortunate that they (and most woke-left groups) do that. Probably a good reason not to send money or otherwise support the organization itself, while still supporting the goal of stopping the killings and violence.

Story you might like:

A nephew (with a White dad) was driving on a SoCal freeway and pulled some stupid lane change right in front of a cop. The cop pulled him over and was talking to him about what he did.

My nephew replied something to the effect that it did not matter, so give me my ticket and let me go.

The cop asked "Is your dad White?"

Nephew: Yes.

Cop: Don't let your dad's stupidity get you killed. Ask your mom to explain this to you.

The cop let him go. His mom was both grateful to the cop and angry at her son.

I guess the cop was trying to tell my nephew that (most) cops treat darker people differently, and _that_ is what #BlackLivesMatter is supposed to be about.

@lnxw37a2
Actually, * does * detract from more serious issues, and blacks actually are not shot disproportionately more than whites when you factor for how many blacks and whites actually interact with law enforcement.

I'll ask you this: how come nobody cares that a white guy was killed by officers after one put his knee on his neck and back for 13 minutes? Or the white people who are getting mauled by mobs every day for literally no reason? What about the police officers getting assassinated every day now? Or that 19 unarmed whites were killed last year by cops, compared to 9 unarmed blacks? 🤔

@realcaseyrollins

> how come nobody cares that a white guy was killed by officers after one put his knee on his neck and back for 13 minutes?

I don't know why others don't seem to care about it. As for me, I only found out about it today.

> What about the police officers getting assassinated every day now?

I'm not aware of any assassinations at all.

> interact with law enforcement

Recognize that such "interactions" are often at the discretion of the law enforcement officer. This is NOT the way to rate proportionality. A cop can choose to force "interactions" on someone for things like walking or driving to school or church.

Consider per capita values. Any other method is deceptive.

Why not?

How is this deceptive?

@realcaseyrollins

A cop can choose to “interact” with you repeatedly, whether you’ve done anything wrong or not. They can (and do) harass Black people on a regular basis, for things as stupid as walking to church carrying a Bible, walking to school (with textbooks), or driving down a dirt road. Thus interactions for Blacks are inflated, even if an arrest doesn’t follow. That isn’t even counting times when evidence of a crime appears where it did not exist prior to the “interaction”.

It is deceptive because most “interactions” are at the officer’s discretion, and the only way one can deny discriminatory policing is to willfully ignore the abundant evidence.

According to the Census Bureau, Blacks are estimated to make up 13.4% of the population (around 44 million), Whites 60.4% of the population (around 198 million).

Throwing your numbers and the Census Bureau’s numbers into a calulator, in 2019, unarmed Blacks were killed by police at slightly over twice (2.135X) the rate of unarmed Whites.

@lnxw37a2 What percantage of whites commit crimes over blacks? There could be a reason they interact more with black citizens than white citizens.

The issue with trying to use general population to make things seem worse than they actually are is that it's innacurate; cops have nothing to do with black people being a minority in this country. They can't choose that, they can only choose who they interact with.

And again, last year, 19 unarmed whites were killed by police, compared to 9 unarmed blacks. 9 is not 2.135 times more than 19. In fact, it flies in the face of the conclusion you're trying to fit your facts into, because cops interact more with black people than white people. If anything, it's disproportional against whites; cops interact with way more blacks but shoot and kill way more whites! Isn't that fascinating?

This is why it's important to focus on police training and not racism. The knee-jerk reaction society has to these situations is "muh racist, treat black people better, cops!" when the real issue is low standards and police unions that protect bad cops. Bust the unions and have higher training standards so that all citizens, not just black citizens, have a better chance at surviving, the cops are better at doing their jobs, and everyone is safer and the law continues to be upheld.
