political correctness is a real issue but you being criticized for saying the n-word is not
@mewmew if they want people to stop saying it they need to stop saying it themselves.
@mewmew if you have the narrative that like, c- and bitch are "bad and degrading" that's fine cause, well the people claiming its bad and degrading also consider women calling other women bitches to be bad. so its a universal-bad.

but if you have some protected class that is allowed to say bitch, but nobody else can say bitch, that's basically codified racism and the excuse for the word being banned is racism so it's literally self defeating.
@icedquinn I personally don't care about if people say the n-word. But people have the right to criticize that, and I don't see the opinion that "people should not say the n-word" as problematic - it's not actually harmful.

@mewmew @icedquinn I never say the n-word because it’s very specific, and very harmful. Bitch is used universally, yes, and it’s also really not as negative and harmful. Really the n-word feels like nearly class of its own in most ways, it feels hateful where bitch is just rude.

I could say it, I’m the Queen of my own free speech server, after all. But I don’t because it’s rarely a productive thing to say, and I’m just not interested in using language that’s outright hateful. The k-word for Jewish people is another example of words that are hateful that I won’t use.

Now, the word isn’t always hateful, but it never is in good taste and doesn’t promote the kind of discourse that I prefer to take part in.

I’m of the opinion that when black people “took the word back” all they really did was perpetuate it back into common usage, and this was in error. It should have been left to rot as an anachronism.

@shebang @mewmew they also get mad if you say negro or black though. which is kind of weird because those were even used by anti-racists in the same timeline.
@icedquinn @shebang I've literally ever seen a black person get mad because you called them black. I've seen a lot of white liberals get mad tho.

@mewmew @icedquinn @shebang They want you to refer to them as "people of color" which includes anyone who isn't white. It seems like they want to lump all non-white people under one race.

@xianc78 @icedquinn @shebang black people or people of color have different meanings and neither are offensive

@mewmew @icedquinn @shebang Well, "people of color" is another way of saying "colored people" which was coined by the KKK.

@xianc78 @icedquinn @shebang no, it's really not. they refer to the same set of people. that doesn't mean it's the same term.
