@xianc78 too dead, not even released in Japan and pretty much haven't been recognized much by Nintendo at all compared to a shitloads of other franchises

@coolboymew I always wondered if StarTropics could ever get somewhat of a cult following in Japan much like how Mother/Earthbound got one in the west. It would probably get Nintendo to give that dead franchise more attention.

@xianc78 Funny, I've been wondering the same

I wonder if Startropics 1 and 2 and something like Secret of Evermore got a big cult following in Japan, much like how we've been wanting Seiken Densetsu 3 and other similar games for years

I have a few Japanese bros following me, but I wonder if they'll find this post and if they're big gamers like we are though
@coolboymew @xianc78 I'd put Fire Emblem and Kirby much higher in the "overused" axis, they're franchises that usually gets more than one game per generation. Compare to Animal Crossing, which is a "once per generation" game.
@guizzy @coolboymew @xianc78 is Golden Sun even Nintendos? Last time I checked they only published it and the rights were not transferred from Sonic Camelot Software Planning
@roka @guizzy @xianc78 The problem with Golden Sun is that Camelot outright came out and said that JRPGs are too hard to make and they don't like making them
@coolboymew @guizzy @xianc78 I'm talking more about the rights tbh. And SonicSP formally split from :sega: after Saturn but I think they still are independent and Golden Sun is completely theirs despite their exclusivity deals.
@roka @guizzy @xianc78 also, usually, the publisher funding the project owns the rights. Pretty sure Nintendo owns the rights
@roka @guizzy @xianc78 what a weird situation to be in. So the game could technically get Wonder Boy'd on other systems? Who would do that tho'?

@coolboymew @guizzy @roka If that were the case, Nintendo would still own Banjo, Conker, and Perfect Dark.

@coolboymew @xianc78 I'd also say Zelda shouldn't be that high, it's still only almost 2 games per generation and only if we count games that are on two consoles for both generations (Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild). Mario Kart and Smash are reliably once a generation and should be next to Animal Crossing IMO.

@coolboymew Tomato from the Mother 3 translation project was working on a Japanese fan translation of the first game. I don't know if he plans to finish it though. Apparently, the Japanese "alphabet" (I don't know if it is called that) contains too many characters for the engine to support without major tweaking to the code.

I don't know how many Japanese gamers are aware of the series though. The only reference of the series that the Japanese may have seen was one of the alternate costumes for ROB in Smash, but they probably didn't understand the reference.

@xianc78 nice

But changing the code is sometimes inevitable. For example, Nanashi no Game on DS had top to bottom traditional text, they had to hack it significantly to have normal display text
@xianc78 sorry for the semi-repeating of what you said, I did it for visibility. I don't think anyone will answer tho'
