@coolboymew I always wanted to make actual poutine, but it is apparently extremely difficult to find cheese curds in the US. I always substitute with chunks or mozzarella.

@xianc78 mozzarella is not quite cheese curds, but it works

There's this chain called Dic Ann's that served really unique fast food stuff. Instead of big greasy friends, it's thin McDo looking ones that's cooked in peanut oil, their gravy is different and quite spicy, and it's actually normal mozzarella looking cheese on top. It's amazing

There's places in New England that sell authentic Poutine but they're far and few between. A lot of places do knockoff poutine and instead of cheese curds just use shredded cheese. It never tastes right and I always end up disappointed.
@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @xianc78 I guess you gotta take a trek to Quebec to have real poutine. It's not like cheese curds are hard to get in New England, and they aren't exactly hard to store

@Feddylain @coolboymew @ooignignoktoo They had actual poutine for one week at my college's cafeteria, but they never had it again. There is also a local fast food chain that sold it for a limited time. I think it's slowly becoming popular in the states, but I don't know why. I think people are trying other ways to eat fries besides dipping them in ketchup.

@xianc78 @Feddylain @ooignignoktoo honestly, it's weird it's not popular in the US yet. It's like the perfect fast food item, and we all know how much the US likes it's fast food

Doubly weird considering that all the big American chains ARE carrying Poutine in Québec. Hell, random take out Chinese restaurant also carries poutine, it's that much of a necessity here
@coolboymew @xianc78 @ooignignoktoo The perfect fast food item is the burrito/shawarma wrap.

Clean and easy to eat anywhere. Fast to make and customizeable. Lot's of room for eateries to stand out from the crowd. Poutine is hard to eat and all the versions of it are just 'lets slap some mediocre meat onto it and call it a main'
