@coolboymew I don't share a lot of this person's tilting at windmills (pretty sure most people in the WORLD consider rape unacceptable and no amount of feminist redefinition of rape can change that) but I don't see what's so weird about ending friendships with people because they believe something one finds repugnant. I wouldn't give the time of day even to a sufficiently committed Muslim, let alone to someone who actually believes my life should get fucked up to spare their baby bitch feelings. ("All trannies SHOULD be put to death" for an extreme but existent perspective I've encountered, more gentle stuff like "drugs SHOULD be completely criminalised" or "you SHOULD have to use your real name online" for some more gentle ones.)

If someone, left to their own devices, is going to actively lobby for something that would inconvenience me then I'm dropping them fucking cold. And the arguments already posted in the comments here about echo chambers don't change that. If I want to expose myself to competing ideas there's a huge range of written material I could use to do so, from Karl Marx to Zeno of Citium.

Where's the VALUE in this "I know we all hate each other and have nothing in common but let's coexist to make facile jokes together" approach? What does it yield?

@brother The issue is that nobody is really like they think they seem. Some of the examples are pretty laughable, like the rape one, pretty much nobody will support rape, what fantasy world do these people live in? The ones being radicalized is themselves and they're absolutely failing to see that they became the asshole in this in most cases, most people have opinions but are not that committed politically, or pretty much, completely outside of the system in that they ain't really doing shit with their opinions

This is something I see a lot around here and it never ceases to mystify me. It's like this community treats powerless but hostile people as curiosities or pets. ("Hi Ricotta, I know you want zombie Nazi nordic soldiers to rise from their graves and kill us all so you can be a little girl with Nazi magic but how are you bro?")

Perhaps this is why people who I'm clearly completely at odds with gave me the time of day back when I was more amusing due to not yet having reacquired a means of articulating myself sanely, but then when I started actually acting on grudges and hurting certain people it all stopped.

And yet I was stating my intentions all along. So are these people. Why is a rabid dog on a chain considered a friend?

This side of the fedi is basically the good 'ol Internet as it used to be 20ish years ago. No fights, plenty of discussions and not outright shutting down people, plenty of board weirdos and inappropriate jokes everywhere. Nobody wanted the Internet to be society 2.0, hence why nicks and the likes

All I said in my post was that I judge people by what they *would* do with power, not what they *can* do with their existing power. It solves two age-old problems: Being a lazy judge of character (like you all seem to be tbh) and being suspicious of power (probably the most unhealthy thing we do as a species.)

I don't give a fuck about fascism or whatever, that wasn't the point of the thing at all. You posted some facebook discussion where someone (who granted seemed like a bit of a drama queen) was defending her practice of terminating friendships over sufficiently big differences of opinion, and I defended her position from another perspective: that birds of together flock together.

There aren't two "sides" to fedi. I was in gamergate too. It's over. It's done. There's a bunch of kids pretending they're fighting a meaningful war and a bunch of adults trying to feel out where they want to be and who they want to talk to. And for me that starts with not talking to people who are going to give me nothing of value in a conversation.

Just earlier today I saw Matrix or some other brainlet posting some greentext thread about how it felt "good to be home" on 4chan where people just randomly assaulted each other in threads, after coming home from the clean sanitised wasteland of reddit. Well by the time Reddit even EXISTED, the mythologised golden age of 4chan was already over.

When we found creeps, traitors and sadists among us, we hunted them down. There's a documentary about it. I think it's called something like "Don't Mess With Cats." We didn't like what Scientology was doing so we founded Anonymous. And before you reach for your keys and tell me how Anonymous is "cucked now", even if that is true in some kind of provable form it would only further my point that a bunch of scared people living in suspended animation and trying to hold the hordes outside back are a *poor set of heirs* to that early crucible of hotblooded people who got worked up over stuff that mattered.
