I've lost count of the number of times I've done this with Terranigma's overworld map, but I kinda have to keep doing it over and over to get different rotations.
Did it with Secret of Mana's map - it looks rather weird even though it's the same resolution... probably due to the land arrangement.
Secret of Evermore's map, for the hell of it. The previous two images were 4096x4096 - this one's 1024x1024, which kind of puts into perspective how much smaller Evermore's world is.
I'd do globes for the maps from Chrono Trigger and ActRaiser, but their resolutions aren't perfect squares, and that would lead to a considerably greater amount of distortion when stretched over a sphere... yeah, not exactly something I feel like going through the trouble to clean up.

@daphailwhale Maybe you can make the planets oblate spheroids instead of spheres. That's the shape that most planets are anyway.
@xianc78 I could try that, but the Shape3D plugin for PDN doesn't exactly make doing that a walk in the park.
