So, apparently those grey cubes were moon pieces and have power moons in them. It seems the game is not done yet. I can't be that far off with ~450 moons, right? :blobsweat:

Although I'm a little concerned that I only activated one of those on the first world and I know they are on the others too. :blobsweats:

Also, that game to recreate Mario's face is bullshit. Nigger arse toad deletes the face and I'm supposed to score higher with just a fucking outline? They should've been conquered the Bowser. Koopas have exciting races. Toads have lame arse puzzles.
@rasterman As for completion - if you're going for 100% you're still a long way off, but if you just want bragging rights for having seen and beaten every world in the game, you only need 500 Moons. That will unlock the final, hardest world in the game.

Btw, aren't you supposed to be bad at 3D platformers? 450 Moons in Odyssey is pretty legit, you're at the very least competent at the game at that point. You'd be capable of beating most of the 3D Mario games at that level of skill.
@ChristiJunior Another world? Do you mean the "Dark Side"? I already have unlocked that. I tried it, but it seems to be a gauntlet with no health refills and I only barely made it to the second boss. I decided to leave that be until I do the rest in hopes of getting better at the game.

BTW, I thought the rabbits were kind of lame; but the RoboBrood was the best boss in the game. And it had awesome boss music too. :0080:

Yes, I am. Some times I jump to my death thinking there was a floor in front of me but I was just not perceiving 3D on a 2D plane. :blobsad: Other times the camera is the biggest enemy. Thanks! :blobcool: I noticed that I did get better than I was when I started. I tried some of the early scarecrow timer challenges that took me tens of tries and now I can do them in one go, for some reason.

I don't know if 100%, since some times I'm standing on the map where the clue says a moon is supposed to be, but I can't find any; but I'll try. After that, I'll move on to Mario 3D Lazy Collection and start with SM64.
@rasterman No, there's a world after Dark Side. It's not a boss rush, but it is very long and kinda hard challenge level. There's a way to cheese it pretty badly tho.

Playing Mario 64 without a nostalgia filter? To quote the Twitter soy boys: Yikes!

If you're not enjoying Mario 64 after the first couple of stars I'd recommend dropping it for Sunshine or Galaxy, because there's not anymore to it than meets the eyes. In my opinion, the game is overrated as hell, and completely outclassed by Odyssey in every conceivable way.
@ChristiJunior @rasterman >completely outclassed by Odyssey in every conceivable way It was a pioneer in its time, running on heavily bottlenecked hardware.
@takao @rasterman Sure, but even on the N64 there were a number of other 3D platformers I liked more, like the Banjo games and Rayman 2.

Meanwhile, I think Ocarina of Time is a fantastic game to this day, and compares favorably to BotW in a great many ways.
@ChristiJunior @takao I remember Rayman from games magazines. I always thought it was a DOS game. Didn't know it came out for the N64. Or that it was 3D. I have Rayman Origins on PC but never finished it. Looks fun but a bit too slow at the same time.

That sounds like Dick Masterson saying SM64 is a tech demo for Ocarina of Time. lol I mentioned that to an IRL friend and it offended him that such a comment would exist. :gordonlol:
@rasterman @takao Rayman 1 was a 2D game not on a Nintendo system until a GBA port, but Rayman 2 was indeed 3D and available on the N64. It's much more linear than Mario 64, but that works to its advantage, letting the devs just have fun coming up with all sorts of cool ideas, set-pieces and challenges rather than spending their time making big, open, but relatively empty and bland worlds. With the Expansion Pak it was also one of the best-looking games on the N64.
@ChristiJunior @takao That reminds me: what's the deal with Bubsy 3D? As I understand it, it was one of those trail-blaizers that defined the genre, but I never had it.

Is Bubsy dealing with the woolies again? What is the lore there? The world needs a remaster on the Switch.
@rasterman @ChristiJunior Bubsy 3D was an overambitions attempt to pioneer a 3D platformer but idiots focused on using high res mode of PS1 and ran out of memory for textures. Project was scrapped several times too so gameplay is poor. Then Mario 64 dropped and publisher told them to just release what they had already.

@takao @ChristiJunior @rasterman I also heard that the developers were more experienced with text-adventures games and then jumped straight to 3D.
