Apparently, it's now possible to use Wiimmfi, an alternative for the defunct Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, without any modification on a DS/3DS system by changing the DNS. Neat. 😙
I want to try to set up a WEP/unsecured connection on an old router over the coming days, with its SSID hidden and using a MAC whitelist with only my 3DS being allowed.

@okabe_rintarou I remember playing Mario Kart DS Wi-Fi all the time as a kid. I don't think I ever won a single race because everyone was using an Action Replay and Nintendo never bothered to implement any anti-cheat on their servers and I could never play with friends because of that stupid friend-code system. But the Nintendo DS's built-in online functionality blew my mind as a kid and it was all free.
