Coming from a country with a long history of the kind of shitter that defends Biden now, I'll tell you they're less than human. A regular person will admit they fucked up once it's blatantly obvious the consequences of poor decisions are coming, because to a normal person, not ending up in poverty or losing your basic constitutional freedoms or preventing genocide are more important than superficial pride. I'm not against people having decision over their destiny, but the current model gives too much power to absolute idiots in relation to how much power it gives to competent people. The system must be adjusted in that regard, to favour honest people and the middle classes in how much of the decision is theirs, plus every method with which to rig and abuse the current system is widely known by now and conspicuously not hardened or fixed.

I think a better alternative would be voluntary associations or covenant communities where property owners in a given area agree on who they associate with. Whether be based on race, religion, lifestyle, etc. Basically a form of anarcho-capitalism known as Hoppeanism.

San Marino or Lichtenstein are beautiful places to live in, and the scale of those nations is small enough that the government is directly an extension of the will of the population, everyone is very happy with it because most of them personally know the elected officials or at least some of their relatives.

When they're not enforced, everyone does whatever they want to the degree their military might allows. When a complicated set of accords and alliances is set to prevent it, and those agreements are honoured, you get a situation like WWI: some dude shoots another dude and suddenly three fifths of the earth's landmass are locked in total war with eachother.
There's no way to enforce international peace short of a manifest god holding a sword over the earth.
