@zemichi @mangeurdenuage @Moon I'm unsure what you mean by "drop the make your own" 2005 free forum mentality that every admin has nowadays", if anything, the Internet needs more of that now
@coolboymew @zemichi @mangeurdenuage there's like three services now that make it possible to host your own with minimal technical chops too
@Moon @coolboymew @mangeurdenuage @zemichi we should also stop cancelling people who think about ways to make the fediverse more mainstream (like gargron), even if their ideas might be bad. Sure, it's legitimate to want to keep the fedi small and elitist (i find it pretty comfy how it is right now), but then you can't complain too much that all those 'idiots' are using facebook.
@lain @Moon @mangeurdenuage @zemichi I kinda don't agree there

Gargon did literally bring the most undesirable elements that is making the other social media insufferable
@coolboymew @lain @Moon @mangeurdenuage @zemichi Gargon has his place; and I think that's fine so long as alternative ActivityPub implementations exist .. everything from Pleroma, Peertube and even Pixelfed.

If at any time Gargon intentionally breaks comparability, I think that would be a bigger issue that would hurt the Fediverse.

At some point, if AP continues to grow; there will eventually be *big* players and once they reach a critical size; they will be able to just cut off the rest of the fedi as it exists at that time in the future. Facebook and Google both dropped XMPP remember (and only Google ever had federated XMPP)

@djsumdog @lain @zemichi@neckbeard.xyz @coolboymew @mangeurdenuage @Moon If that's the case then maybe fedi isn't the future and instead we should embrace P2P social media like Twister or PocketNet.
