@icedquinn I’ve been saying this for ages now. Privatized police are the only way that police are going to have any reason to do a good job protecting people or property.
Government police only serve the interest of the government. Private police serve the interest of whoever is paying for them. If your community is paying for then, then they serve that community.
I don't have issue with police at all honestly. Some are corrupt, but even then you can avoid the worst of it if you're just not an asshole and don't commit crimes.
The major corruption occurs with prosecutors. They are the real problem. They lie and cheat all day; put innocent people in jail to meet quotas (see the documentaries: Outcry, The Trayvon Hoax, Trial by Media).
Police are just drones for the most part. The majority are good, some are bad, and defunding efforts will keep the more corrupt ones and force the non-corrupt ones out.
Defund the prosecutors, or at least hold them fucking accountable. Prosecutors are rarely ever disbarred or face consequences for misconduct.

@djsumdog @shebang the moral imperative of the police is to keep the peace. the hobbsian bargain is that the state has a monopoly (and thus suppresses civilian violence) so it can enforce the process of statecraft on itself.
to say stupid shit (as courts have) that the state doesn’t have the obligation to suppress violence is to declare the state is invalid (under hobbs.)
@icedquinn @shebang True. The courts in the US have said there is no duty to protect. They city is not responsible if you call the cops and they don’t show.
That’s one reason the CHAZ lawsuit is so interesting, because they go after the state on things like “unlawful gift” and perpetuating the nuance.

@icedquinn @djsumdog @Zerglingman @shebang I could probably get a job at my brother's place but from what I heard the whole vaccine controversy is so bad that some won't go back to work unless everyone is vaccinated while others refuse to get the vaccine, so they have to do everything remote and they can't take any jobs right now.
I'm still an ancap but I don't expect it to happen anytime soon. I expect it to happen on some new frontier like a space colony or seastead which is why I'm a frequent donor of the Seasteading Institute.

@icedquinn @djsumdog @Zerglingman @shebang Either way, I think new frontiers through things like Seasteading can allow us to experiment with new and niche political/economic systems, not necessarily just forms of libertarianism or anarchism. It's like our the US demonstrated to the rest of the world that a constitutional republic can work.
I think most of us can agree that the current system is not working the way we're expecting which is why so many people are embracing more niche ideologies. I think the best way to prove or disprove that these systems can work is in break-away societies.
Dumb psychos typically end up in jail and are not much of a threat; the smart ones are incredibly deceptive and manipulate everyone around them.
