When I was in Japan in 1993 there were Blockbuster video VHS rental vending machines. Literally predating Redbox by 13 years. Blockbuster probably didn't have to die, they had a successful business model that they apparently didn't expand.

@Moon It was probably late 2000s or early 2010s. I live in the US.
