@Jdogg247 It's (mostly) not about protecting the kids. Unknown long-term complications and the risk of a variant that's more dangerous are considerations, but it's mostly to reduce spread among the general population. If they were serious about ending the pandemic they'd be vaccinating any willing kids immediately after all the willing adults had gotten it instead of yelling at antivaxxers and jerking off to bureaucratic bullshit.

@Jdogg247 Kids get shots all the time. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be administered on a voluntary basis considering that the risk for side effects has generally been low. At the very least it makes no sense to open IRL schooling without giving parents even the option to vaccinate their kids to reduce the likelihood of them bringing it home.

@Jdogg247 Not all vaccines provide complete or sterilizing immunity. The shot does provide pretty good protection against severe illness and it's not especially dangerous.

@ArdanianRight @Jdogg247 how can anyone say "this treatment is safe" when long term studies don't exist at all? Is it bad faith or what? Pharma pulls the plug on meds 3-4 years down the line bc side effects become evident all the time. They even pull fully approved stuff years later.

These therapies have been out for like 8 months, trials were like 2 months. What evidence is there for them to be "safe"? You look like disingenuous fucks. Best you could have is "we don't know and it's a gamble"

However, they are convinced ("TV said so") that a) the side effects are "low risk" and b) that covid-19 is so horrible that it's worth it no matter what.

@hourmutt @MechaSilvio @Jdogg247 I mean covid is bad enough to kill 600k+ Americans. If people were actually dropping dead en masse from the vaccine we'd know about it. Obviously there are risks of side effects, some of which are unknowable without years of research, but that's true for the disease as well. Risk is an inevitable part of life, but I'm siding with the smaller risk in this case. The evils of nature are worse than those of civilization.

At best I only have educated guesses based on past events that it'll probably be fine, but I can't say I know that.
