>Mastodon was data mining its users the entire time.

>Trump literally gabb’d himself within an hour of setting up his MASTODON instance.

Good thing I like women, so I use Pleroma like a real human being.

@gear Mastodon is for fags Not surprising considering its developer is an (((apple)))fag

@mikuphile

To be fair, Fedi in general was made for crypto trannies to discuss and have a “safe” space away from normies. So we are technically the invasive species.
@gear @mikuphile nah. It was basically just a strange little network of IT workers and tech enthusiasts. Eternal September came, but it still was mostly this for a small while. Then Mastodon came and that's when shit hits the fan the the IT people started getting outnumbered. Then came the Japanese users and it goes from there
@gear @mikuphile just saying. Been here during the first eternal september when we were all still using Gnu Social, until these starting blowing up one by one
@coolboymew @mikuphile

Laymens term dude.
I don’t know half the jargon you’re talking about
@gear @mikuphile Eternal September is an old term about a shitload of user influx. Twitter started putting out weird shit and that got people worried. We actually weren't that much and half or more of those people quit shortly after

Gnu Social is what was there before Pleroma and Mastodon. There might have been others. The thing was an abandoned project and the instances all self destructed under the weight of new instances and activity
@coolboymew @gear @mikuphile "eternal september" was a term from the usenet (super old internet service) days, it meant "it's september so the students are coming back on the network and everything is turning to shit"

@Moon @gear @mikuphile @coolboymew Other communities/networks have analogs to it. 2007 is considered 4chan's Eternal September, for example.

@xianc78 @Moon @gear @mikuphile yeah, when I first came we disturbed the old Gnu Social instances quite a little bit. But it was absolutely nothing compared to when Mastodon came
Follow

@coolboymew @gear @mikuphile @Moon I obviously came after that. But the arrival of Poast has truly drained the quality here. While there are some descent users there, that instance has made this place more of a far-right echo chamber and that shit is starting to get old.

@xianc78 @coolboymew @mikuphile @Moon

>there are some cool users there but the place is a far right echo chamber.

Yeah but if you instance block them, you’re seen as a bad guy and if you tell their users to fuck off to a different instance if they want your attention, YOU’RE in the wrong. I fucking hate it, their mod team is dog shit too.
@gear @xianc78 @coolboymew @mikuphile user-level instance blocking is good if it makes your experience less shit.
@Moon @xianc78 @mikuphile @coolboymew

If blocking worked the way it should and deny shitters from even seeing your shit, I would agree at it enhances your viewing experience. But it’s a major annoyance when people can flat out still respond to your shit and someone else, not knowing the situation comes in and causes an incomplete reply chain.
@gear @coolboymew @mikuphile @xianc78 I am sorry to say that for intractable technical reasons this will never get better, it's something you eventually just learn to ignore or it drives you crazy enough to leave.
@Moon @xianc78 @mikuphile @coolboymew

Put up with it the best I can, I guess. It’s still extremely frustrating.
@Moon @gear @coolboymew @mikuphile @xianc78 the beauty of the fedi experience is that you can totally customize it such that many swaths of it are totally ignorable without even having to resort to blocks; since what you follow is what you get
@gear @xianc78 @coolboymew @mikuphile Graf and I have different philosophies on server management, but he has been nothing but kind to me over and over again and I like him a lot.
@Moon @xianc78 @mikuphile @coolboymew

Realistically I have nothing against the dude. But his community is a different story. I’m very much a scorch earth dude though.
@Moon @coolboymew @mikuphile @xianc78

Like for my own headaches (and I already get enough of them from my own job) I’d rather not interact with someone who clashes THAT hard with me, or will insult my friends. That’s personal shit though.
@gear @coolboymew @mikuphile @xianc78 I used to take it a bit personally when we were blocked or I was personally deactivated somewhere, but I have transitioned to "do whatever makes you comfortable to stay here, just don't necessarily announce it"
@Moon @xianc78 @mikuphile @coolboymew

Eh, well personally? I got no beef with you. From a blocking philosophy, I’m from the old twitter hunting grounds, where getting blocked is considered a war trophy. But that’s over there, over here I try and keep shit as much of 2009 internet as I can, and that also means blocking unfunny retards.
@xianc78 @coolboymew @gear @mikuphile @Moon It's basically /pol/ but with identities, so perhaps worse, perhaps better. At the very least you can't have 20 different same-faggers come in and start calling each other jews, post "> X > white", and hyper-derail whatever the topic at hand is.
@kerosene @xianc78 @mikuphile @Moon @coolboymew

You know this is going to sound retarded. But I think I’d rather take BBC anon over the same underage retard screaming about Asian women in underware and then posting gore as a reply to you being more entertaining.

@kerosene @gear @mikuphile @Moon @coolboymew Pretty much any "free-speech" community these days is basically /pol/. Which is why I was surprised to see that the free speech side of fedi was a lot more laid-back and open minded, but that slowly changed when Poast came around.

@coolboymew @kerosene @xianc78 @mikuphile @Moon

>free speech.

So the funny thing is, If you don’t announce that you’re a free speech instance and just carry on like normal, than that’s fine. The issue with shit spiraling out of control, is that people tend to view political identities as literal fucking sports teams, instead of something that should be passively talked about or brought about. Kind of like how trannies use their sexuality as the ONLY redeeming thing about them? Same thing goes for this situation, politics is the ONLY redeeming thing about their personality.

Both are NPC’s, which is why it feels so unfun. You’re talking with a literal chatbot.
@gear @Moon @kerosene @mikuphile @xianc78 unfortunately this all changed on most of the internet in, 2014 was it? And this is basically what the zoomers and under will always know it as, and shit's just about to get worse
@coolboymew @kerosene @xianc78 @mikuphile @Moon
Imagine getting groomed by some retard who thinks that hard Catholicism and LSD was the correct moral path in life? Certainly not little Timmy over here who didn’t even get a chance to develop a real moral compass after being fucked over by some random girl he met on league of legends.

@coolboymew @kerosene @gear @mikuphile @Moon I'm technically a zoomer (born 1998) and I still remember the apolitical Internet, but yeah all these youngsters are just going to know Internet culture as mostly idpol.

@xianc78 @kerosene @gear @mikuphile @Moon @coolboymew Funny that. Without heavy censorship pulling it in the other direction, spaces tend to become right wing

@xianc78 @coolboymew @gear @mikuphile @Moon Even with poast around, I would still say that the fediverse is more left-leaning... it's just that I don't see most of that side as they blocked us. It amazed me to realise how large mastodon was/is. I don't even see that much of the true scale of the fediverse.

Game Liberty Mastodon

Mainly gaming/nerd instance for people who value free speech. Everyone is welcome.
