@astheroth .xyz TLD pulled their domain, AFAIK they haven’t given the actual reason yet. He’s setting up iirc base.st as his new server and trying to figure out what if anything he can migrate across domains (TLDR sounds like ‘not much’).

@anonymoose @astheroth

Is there a list of based TLDs?

Is there some Russian oligarch that owns a TLD?

@Laconicif @astheroth

Oh, I missread as ‘base’ instead of ‘based’. AFAIK no one has compiled a list. Let’s pool together $185K and start the .based TLD

@luke @Laconicif @astheroth

The .club tld used to be a cool independent company, but they were bought by godaddy and iirc they suspended moon’s seal.club domain…. or maybe just wanted an insane amount of money to renew it. Anyway, morale of the story is, can’t always control these things.

I like the idea of blockchain dns like unstoppabledomains.com but I don't know if you could use that to run a fediverse instance at the moment. Most browsers don't support it and it might not even solve this problem.
@anonymoose @Laconicif @astheroth

@luke @anonymoose @astheroth @Laconicif I was talking to @graf about this. He's planning to look into it after helping out @sjw .

@xianc78 @luke @anonymoose @astheroth @Laconicif @sjw I already proved it could be done. it would still be running if ETH gas fees weren't 50$ to update a single DNS record

as it stands right now because of fees ENS isn't and will never be a viable alternative behind it being a novelty. if ETH gas fees were 1$? maybe. 50$? I won't ever do it full stop
I had not looked into it before, thanks for bringing it up. I'll have to dig in and research this.
@xianc78 @graf @anonymoose @Laconicif @astheroth @sjw

@luke @anonymoose @graf @sjw @astheroth @Laconicif ZeroNet uses it for it's domains but it can also be used for clearnet sites. They only offer .bit though.

@xianc78 Do you have any Namecoin tutorials? Last time I looked into this, there was like zero documentation on how to set it up with ZeroNet. And don't you have to continually keep paying namecoin to keep the domain working?
@luke @anonymoose @graf @sjw @astheroth @Laconicif

@djsumdog @anonymoose @Laconicif @astheroth @graf @sjw @luke No. I just know about it. Apparently, you need the Namecoin wallet for it to work. I know when it comes to ZeroNet there is a ZeroNet site were you can purchase .bit domains (ZeroName), but I think on there you can only use it with ZeroNet.
