Google did two things right:

1. search
2. google wave

they killed google wave

also gmail before it got too big

@Moon I honestly remember most of Google's products being pretty good prior to... 2014 I'm tempted to say? When they discontinued Reader and forced G+ integration on YouTube, that was the definite moment where I was like "yeah, ok, you can't trust these guys"

Glass dying was to me when it became evident google was running out of innovation steam and rather becoming stagnant and out of touch.

@parisc @Moon I'll be honest, I barely even remember Glass, and what I do remember of it was being really creeped out at the concept of AR generally

I remember the big fear was with the early smart devices having cameras in them and the fear being that crazy people and or Google (depending on who you asked) would use them as stealth cameras. It wasn't just a glass fear, the original Galaxy Gear/Gear 2 had a camera built in.

I'm sure they thought it would be a good idea to have Google maps or notifications beamed to your eyes, keep in mind some cars of the era were printing gps directions in gauge clusters or HUDs.
