Harmony should really describe things further…

At least as someone that's an heavy IRC user with a bit of XMPP and rarely Matrix, I just can't really tell what it is and what it will be.

@waweic @lanodan How about everyone use my shitty PHP+AJAX shoutbox software instead?

@lanodan @waweic I prefer shoutboxes over any chat protocol. They're a quick and simple way to leave messages, most of the time without an account.

@xianc78 @waweic
Well that's mostly how IRC works, which started getting better for this in the last years with the integration of chat histories.

XMPP also allows ephemeral/anonymous accounts but it's used in rather specific scenarios like Meet Jitsi and converse.js with some traditional MUCs not allowing this kind of accounts (mostly because of spam).

shoutboxes aren't my preferred chat platforms as I can't idle on them and check back once in a while but other than that they are fine.

@lanodan @waweic There's no need to idle on shoutboxes because messages are (temporarily) archived.

@xianc78 @waweic The backlog is often rather limited and all of the shoutboxes that I've used require you to reconnect after some minutes of being idle.

It's annoying enough that I tried once to make a bridge to my IRC client only to end up not doing it because web is rather painful to reuse.
