Honestly, the Dreamcast didn't seem like a bad console now that I'm looking a bit into it. Quite the opposite, back in the days, this was PC quality for a cheap price ($199 at launch according to what I'm reading). And not any PC quality, it actually looks and feels good!

The PS2 and the XBOX wouldn't launch until 2-3 years later or so. Both would cost $299. That's $100 more. Sure, they launched a little bit later and their specs would be a little bit higher but I'd dare to say that the Dreamcast still had enough performance to compete.

@enigmatico They probably could if they didn't lost so much money from the Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn. It would probably would have ranked in the same place as the GameCube and Xbox though. And I also think they probably would have had to change their controller mid-gen just to have dual-analog (it was the only 6th gen console without one). They probably could've had gotten away with the GD-ROM since it was around the same storage size as a GameCube disc.
