But if there were, and they went through with it, and he actually ended up in jail, it would be the ultimate US balkanization speedrun strat.

I really believe that the whole culture war and left/right polarization that we have been experiencing for nearly the past decade was all planned. And Trump was (s)elected as a republican who promised to restore America to it's former glory (but failing to deliver) while also viewed as the stereotypical "rich guy becomes president for his own benefit trope" and a racist, sexist, homophobe, transphobe, etc by the left. This was enough to cause the right amount of tension and to keep people in false dichotomies like left vs right and nationalism vs globalism.
I also believe that it was planned from the start for his presidency to end after one term with the "election fraud" and the Jan 6th glowie op because while I believe the Democrat and Republican parties are both puppets, the modern Democrat party seems to align more to what the shadow government really wants (as the old saying goes, "republicans are democrats with a speed limit"). They just needed a controversial president that seems to be against the establishment to run his term and throw him out just so they can push their agenda.
Puppet or not, there are a fair number of people in this country who worship the ground he walks on, and just as many who hate his guts, if he got arrested he would 110% run from jail (there's nothing in the constitution that says he can't), and I think he would win.
This would result in a constitutional crisis since even though there's nothing in the constitution saying someone can't run from jail, there's no prescient for what happens when they win. Half the country would outright consider the other's president illegitimate no matter what happens, someone breaks off (probobly Texas), other current states follow suit and join up with other succeeding states to form other countries, things escalate from there.
To clarify, I don't think this is going to happen, I think balkanization in the US is going to probobly happen because of economic reasons more than anything else, the political instability is just going to light the fire. And I do agree that Jan 6th was definitely a glowie opp, and that there certainly are powers that want this to happen for a variety of reasonds.
