Some time ago I was stuck in a late-night snow storm and, illogically, left all my winter gear behind before I started driving. Anyway, I stopped in there to pick up some stuff and while walking around I came across a young black girl stocking a shelf in the back of the store and I thought "finally, at least one other 'American' in this store".

@PhenomX6 @wood@pdx.social This is worse than doing happy birthday songs at restaurants. And it reminds me of those dancing Tik-Tok nurses during the COVID lockdowns. But this still doesn't seem like something that every Wal-Mart is doing. And I'm pretty sure most managers wouldn't force their employees to do it if they don't want to. The only ones that seem to have won the contest didn't have all their employees. They won only because someone in the crew actually knew how to edit videos.

Luckily, the only thing that we had to do back when I was working minimum wage was play some stupid ice-breaker board game and compare ourselves to food items on the menu. And thankfully, this is usually something that only minimum-wagies of big chains have to do.

@xianc78 @wood the retail job I was at didn't do this.

On the other hand Walmart stories are insane shit anyhow. My friend started working once at Walmart and quit because he kept cleaning up piss in the beer aisle

@PhenomX6 @wood@pdx.social I stopped shopping there for good because their COVID policies were ridiculous even compared to other stores. I had some black lady yell at me for accidentally going the wrong way. Seriously, all she was doing was screaming at people in front of the entrance to force measures that don't even work. Even before then, I was treated like shit by the workers and I was fed up.

Luckily, regional chains are fairing much better here. We only have around two Wal-Marts in this entire region.
