pretty neutral on activitypub the protocol. a lot of it derived from pump protocol which existed first (I know evan p. worked on both) but the fact is that mastodon took off before activitypub and while a good move to switch, didn't strictly need to switch to continue its momentum. the reason people came was because of mastodon's user interface.

@Moon ActivityPub is a bloated piece of shit. twtxt is where it's at. It's RSS but for microposts.

@Moon Have you tried it? I'm considering adding a feed for my site.

@xianc78 in the interest of fairness i'll read it over again because the last time i read it was right after it was introduced. one thing that really stuck out to me was that your file just grows forever.

@Moon Yarn.social (a web based front-end) uses separate feeds for each user after a certain threshold is reached. It's kind of like RSS. It's up to the webmaster or server to decide the limit of posts per feed.

Honestly, the only cumbersome thing about it is that you need to follow users or a registry in order to read replies from others.

@Moon @xianc78

it scales v poorly if it was going to try to match activitypub levels of activity but it's fine for a quiet network w/ few participants

@rats @Moon Yarn.social has made unofficial extensions to the protocol to make it somewhat more usable. Yarn is basically trying to be the Pleroma of twtxt.
