Basically, it's just a bunch of boomers without any plan, just like in the US Jan 6th "insurrection". The difference is that our boomers managed to destroy something (besides the Right's image). But they didn't have any means to secure any kind of power or to do a "coup", they just went there, destroyed some things, set the building on fire, and that's it.

They organized it internally in their groups in the last few days, and it seems that, despite they being stupid boomers, there are no brilliant leftists or journos that manage to infiltrate these groups, so everyone was taken by surprise.

I love watching arguments between ivy league academics on twitter where they argue whether they should censor us so our ideas go away, or keep us on their platforms so they and the govt can keep tabs on us.

as far as fedi goes, I take it for what it is: a twitter like, self hosted platform I can use to disseminate ideas publicly. I wouldn't use it for private messages and chatrooms when matrix or xmpp exists.

Even if they can't subponea, people post every detail of their life on there to the point it makes it easy to comb through specific sites. It's even more prevalent with big name "alt-tech" platforms, such as the "demon witch tranny" hackers who went after Gab, the troon who scraped Parler, Unicorn Riot's Discord chat leaks, the archives of the Iron March forum that are used to dox people from there years later, and whatnot. Hell look at what's going on with KF right now, the severe pressure against users that didn't exist 5 years ago is deliberate; they want to scare people off of there since they can't take it down.
But the fedi is a massive fucking blind spot. Even saying the word fedi makes normies go "huh what" but if you say Mastodon it clicks. And Mastodon users do not understand that you can self host an instance when their shitty instance on DigitalOcean with 12 people keeps going down. They don't know about quote posts, longer posts, or reacts, or the specific memes in this side like watamelon or the Alex Gleason jokes to name a few. They're even unaware of the tranime side with Akkoma, Calckey, and whatnot (even with the crossover in those spheres).
To make matters worse, they've chosen to act like Poast and the right wing sphere of the fedi doesn't exist or are unaware as their admins don't let them know. The delusion with Gab and how "blocking made it go down" has made them double down on this, and that's what makes it so funny. They feel untouchable when they scrape Twitter for posts to get political dissidents busted (I just saw a fedi post advocating for this), but they are totally oblivious to the other side of the fedi, moreso with instances that hide or censor blocklists. They tell each other they're bad people, blissfully unaware that the fedi is now loaded with Poasties and the like. It's not like they'd know Poast exists when it's not listed on the "join fedi" sites run by Eugen dicksuckers or fedi listing sites that will remove your instance over not liking you.
The cherry on top is the ratio of actual posts to politisperging is higher than on Gab/Parler/etc, and if they use the fedi it's going to hit them in the face.
