@xianc78 Didn't MIT AI lab (where Stalledman was) using something like ai.cs.mit.edu?
But well here I don't really care much abut the difference.

@lanodan I was the only one who could memorize my professor's website's URL. Everyone else had to Google it.

@xianc78 Not sure why the tilde vs. hostname thing would change things much, in fact I'd say the hostname one is likely worse in terms of administration and memorisation.

Like mit.edu/~rms would be much simpler and email would just be rms at mit.edu, while with dedicated hostnames the email would also likely differ.

@lanodan Not many people are familiar with tildes in the URL these days.
