Everyone,

I've heard that there's people who are asking people for their dox in private chats/DMs. Sometimes these people offer to send gifts to people in exchange for their names/addresses.

So like, don't do that.

Seriously.

That's fucking retarded.

Good people will actively ask to not have your dox - they will not want to be suspects in case you get doxxed.

If you're reading this, chances are one of your followers needs to be reminded of elementary opsec. Repost this.
@xianc78 Shouldn't people be cautious of any package they get like that? What if it's got some sort of tracker on it?

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating A lot of e-celebs have them and do unboxing of stuff people sent them.

@xianc78 @ceo_of_monoeye_dating A youtuber I watch had to stop doing those kinds of videos because someone sent him a package with a GPS tracker in it, so they could find his actual address

@galena @ceo_of_monoeye_dating It would be easier to name a Youtuber that hasn't been address doxed at this point. Though mostly, it's from people recognizing local landmarks from their videos.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating @xianc78 Open it on-site and inspect it. Even if it has a tracker they'll only get as far as your post office.
@Zerglingman @xianc78 >Make thread asking people to not accept weird gifts from strangers that might lead them to their house
>"Yeah but what if you trust them?"

If they're trustworthy, they want to never be holding onto your dox! That's the point of the post I made!

I swear I am so fucking glad I am here to try to put this into your brain, I want to keep you safe from this shit. That's why I'm telling you.
@ceo_of_monoeye_dating @xianc78 Hence the PO boxes. Because you still shouldn't trust anyone with your address.
@ceo_of_monoeye_dating @Zerglingman @xianc78

> If they're trustworthy, they want to never be holding onto your dox!

.... it's a good general rule ofc, but it's fine to get to know people selectively. calculated risk and all that

I'd be pretty cautious around places like this tho :02_laugh:
@roboneko @Zerglingman @xianc78 Yes - on places like fedi, the calculation for the risk should look like "there are journalists here who would love to ruin my life, they're here in large numbers, and they'd love to have my dox."

It's fine to be friends and talk about stuff, but you shouldn't be handing out dox.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating @roboneko @Zerglingman @xianc78 It’s also worth noting that all fedi communication is completely insecure. Even if you meet someone on here you trust enough to share potentially reveling info with, only use fedi to exchange contact information for a secure communication channel. That way if when your DMs get hacked and leaked you won’t suffer overmuch for it.
