I think you should point out how networks like Nostr or even Usenet were able to fix this problem without a centralized server just to further explain why this isn't a valid excuse.
The other is to bake in moderation and it's clear that's their goal. This is for the same crowd as mega mastodon instances who hate how there was less censorship on twitter than they wanted but also doesn't want to be involved in the instance block wars.
