Are X and rumble teaming up to save surveillance rather than free speech?
The fight over advertising seems like a bit of tug of war over the
real-time data collected by Programmatic advertising.
Would also explain the Google antitrust decision.

@gabriel I've heard that Rumble is actually the most privacy respecting video sharing site right now, not including decentralized networks like PeerTube, provided that you either block the third-party JS or watch the videos via MPV.

It's big investor is Peter Thiel, the guy who co-founded Palantir; literally the largest government contractor for domestic and international spy software in the world (whose customers include the US, UK, Israel, Australia...)

Rumble has censored stuff before, and it seems alright now, but who knows how things will go a year or five years from now. Remember, Google had the unofficial office slogan: "Don't be Evil."

@djsumdog @gabriel Probably should've said "least bad". Of couse, conservative talk show hosts shill it so that's a huge red-flag there, but at least as of now, I can watch their videos via MPV which is why I usually choose the Rumble option when someone uploads to multiple sites.

🍇 'Member when Bitchute actually had magnet links on their videos?
I'd love to get more detail on what Odysee is up to these days, afaik it's all just "coming soon! Now with Arweave!"
@djsumdog@djsumdog.com

Bitchute had magnet links?! No I don't remember that.

I still use Odysee quite a bit, more than Rumble honestly. But I really hate it when people are on YouTube and just mirror to Odysee/Rumble and you hear the "We can't say that on YouTube..." in the mirrored videos. ... The best people to follow on either of those sites are the ones who are banned from YouTube ... you know they'll just say what they fucking want.

YouTube has really made new weird vocabulary ... people who spell out things like "a-b-u-s-e" or saying "he unalived himself" instead of suicide or "pew pew" instead of gun.

Monetization was a mistake ... as was humanity.

@djsumdog @gabriel You could only download BitChute videos using the Brave browser. It used WebTorrent but only the BitChute server was the seeder.

@gabriel @djsumdog
I don't know what the future holds for Odysee now that LBRY is dead. It is the closest to a viable YouTube alternative, but it still uses a lot of JS from Google (though it's still viewable when disabled), and apparently the CEO claimed that they really don't care about free-speech and they might add stricter content policies once/if they get a sizable user base.

@xianc78@gameliberty.club

provided that you either block the third-party JS or watch the videos via MPV.

Most people won't and I doubt they care about the small group of people who will. (Good browsers/addons can help with this)
I would argue Rumble has a lot of time to get worse, and that they're still in the "grow the audience" phase.
Theil has invested in Rumble,
FWIW

@gabriel @xianc78 the new knowledge (to me) that Theil is invested in rumble matches with my understanding that its a surveillance and targeting machine.

(g)rumble requires a phone number, aka zero privacy.

@xianc78 @gabriel @djsumdog adding to what i aid above i also think its a counterintelligence operation. the aging people that i know have been led to the platform are spurting a lot of crap, yes there might be some genuine vioces on their but its an iq-lowering thing in my estimation.

again ive never used it, it did work over tor, later it wanted phone nnumber.... not happening

@xianc78 @djsumdog @gabriel didnt work over tor, rather

its clearly lowering my iq by osmosis
