Alpine Linux is starting to piss me off with its shit documentation. Should I take the NixOS pill?

@wowaname @lewdthewides Is there any reason why you can't just stick to using something like Codeberg or Neocities for the time being?

@xianc78 @lewdthewides i'd sooner admit that nobody gives a flying fuck about me if they aren't willing to support me financially or help me get connected with a new employer
@xianc78 @lewdthewides my criticism is aimed in general at people who surprised-pikachu at my whole situation unfolding, and the people who were using my services, not anyone in specific. really it's a lasting online sentiment that needs to change, and the people who *are* capable of putting their money where their mouth is, should step up and do so already

@wowaname @lewdthewides I don't know how popular your services actually were, but I do know that on 8moe/v/'s GamerGate threads there is someone who occasionally posts a list of software and services that are worth supporting and your services were listed on there until they went offline.

I think having progress bars on how much money is needed and how much money has been donated helps or maybe you need to offer at least some payed services or give rewards to people who donate like custom domains for email addresses.

@xianc78 @lewdthewides they weren't popular but i'm not surprised it ended up in a few lists. i did start having goals on OC/LP and tried to share the links but word of mouth for that kind of shit is hard

@wowaname @lewdthewides The list in question contains a lot of fediverse instances and projects from fedi users, so I assume that users from fedi have contributed to that list.

I think these email services get popular for hosting email for someone or something popular. What partially contributed to cock.li's popularity was briefly hosting 8chan's email addresses.

@xianc78 @lewdthewides just checked neocities homepage for shits and they wall off their registration using hcaptcha. nice joke

@wowaname @lewdthewides I tried them once, but I didn't like their file upload limitations. I don't remember them using hcaptcha, but I do know that the CEO is pro-censorship, despite free-speech and free-expression being part of their original vision.

You could also try HelioHost. They are one of the few free web hosts out there that support server-side scripting (with dozens of languages supported), databases, and email hosting. They run entirely off of donations, but have been running for a very long time.

heliohost.org/

@wowaname @lewdthewides Well, it looks like you have to wait for a certain time to get a free website there, but that's probably because the server was just recently upgraded.

@xianc78 @lewdthewides i'd sooner get a shell on a shared box but i don't like having shell access to systems i don't own
