@Hephaestic @vokainen099 @Hyperhidrosis 8chan was already in a decline around 2016 with GamerGate no longer being talked about and the drama regarding Infinity Next. It was basically relegated to the same level as other altchans like 420chan, only being the most popular altchan by far. It wasn't until after the THQ AMA that 8chan was brought back in the limelight again.

It could be that, but I also remember YouTube videos that were nothing but compilations of Reddit posts being on the feature video sidebars for whatever reason.
I wouldn't say it was declining since there was still a healthy community of people for the big boards like /v/ and /pol/, plus a bunch of smaller ones. I'll concede that its influence was waning since it'd already accomplished the impossible and put Trump in office.
