This may sound strange, but the times when I want to work on gamedev stuff the most is when I'm on vacation when I should be spending time with my family and all that.
Maybe it's because I see new things and places and they give me inspiration for video game locations or it's just not being in a familiar location frees the mind and makes you feel more productive.
@frost Take note that I'm talking about vacations (i.e being away from work AND home) and not just weekends or days off. Even when I'm unemployed or have extended time off, it's harder for me to get into that gamedev mindset than when I'm away from home.
@xianc78 Here's the trick: when you get an idea, write it somewhere, then go back to vacationing. When you get back, you can read what you wrote and see if it's any good
