Supposedly, itch.io is looking for alternate payment processors.

For the love of God, just use crypto. You guys used to accept Bitcoin. Who the fuck cares if you get backlash from the anti-crypto crowd? They'll get over it. Some of them even use it when e-begging via the MutualAid hashtag on here.

Allegedly the payment processors consider it 'high-risk' if you accept crypto (or the
wrong ones) so it's likely not that simple.
I would say packaging a CMS with crypto payments specifically for game devs to sell their games seems like an opportunity these days.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but I have zero experience with crypto development. Is there a way to have a sandboxed crypto network for testing purposes or do people test this stuff with wallets on the actual network?

Any crypto worth using definitely has a testnet that can be used.
But
@silverpill@mitra.social has subscriptions working via XMR in @mitra@mitra.social
It's absolutely achievable, but I'm sure silverpill can give us an idea on how much work would be involved.

@gabriel @xianc78 Something like Mitra requires a lot of work, but you can get to Minimum Viable Product pretty quickly, just don't bother with federation and use existing software to process payments, like BTCPay Server.

@gabriel @xianc78 There was a cool multi-currency payment processor written in Rust, but I can't find it now, because the name of the project was "wallet" :D
