I think the Jacobin was a French invention, and by even today's standards they were batshit crazy and blood-thirsty. ANTIFA is a pussycat compared to those.

So I never discredit anything in France as "nothing-burger".

These days France just gives them money to not do anything. If the RN comes to power then they'll stop giving them money and when they riot they'll pick them up and take them to some lost Caribbean island that's technically considered France.

I never understood how France being a birth-place of so many fucked-up ideas and so many devastating defeats... France is the most defeated nation on this planet, they lost more wars and resources and credibility than any other.

Americans like to say France lost WW2, but the British are the ones who really lost in WW2 because they lost their empire and all of their colonies. France still has colonies, both actual French territories and African countries under it's de-facto control.

True, Britain is leading the looser's race. But they did not make so many terrifying mistake like Napoleon did with the Russian War - what was even the purpose with that? The Maginot Line between World Wars, the Indo-China and Algerian Wars, their over-reliance on a mercenary force, etc.. France was always a weird outlier to me, and now that a political storm is brewing I suspect they will again pull something entirely weird and unexpected.

France has taken it's share of hits, but Germany got ground up into little pieces, Russia got overthrown by communists, and the Ottoman empire no longer exists - so overall France has done alright.
