The vast majority of problems in the game industry can easily be solved if we had a truly free market where "intellectual property" laws don't exist. That way games will have to compete with other games in the same franchise.

Don't like how Nintendo is casualizing Pokemon? Just buy the Pokemon games made by this other studio. Don't like how Blizzard makes the newer Diablo games either online or mobile only? Play the Diablo games made by this other company that makes them for PC and playable offline.

We can already play pokemon fangames far better than anything nintendos made, the only issue is that they inevitably get taken down as soon as they get popular. This proves your theory is correct.
