It looks like Codeberg just banned all cryptocurrency related projects, but it was to be expected, given the CEOs relation with Drew DeVault and them taking more far-left stances as of late.

I guess there is simply no viable alternative to GitHub unless you self-host. Maybe the Git-over-Nostr solutions would take off, but I am sick and tired of people bringing unrelated politics into the FOSS movement.

this is, largely, why i took so goddamn long to ever make a codeberg account at all.
@sun @xianc78 radicle.iceworks.cc has been around for half a year or more. not a large fan, UX is awful.

probably an article in there somewhere about mission drift but i don't think i'm the one to write it. being caustically centrist is apparently an imperative :neocat_sad:
@icedquinn @xianc78 well that's unfortunate. I'm soured a bit on gitea because ai scraping made it impossible to have a normally-accessible site.
@sun@shitposter.world @icedquinn@blob.cat @xianc78@gameliberty.club i was looking at moving all my stuff to selfhosted gitea today so thats why im interested
@anemone @xianc78 @sun forgejo was "fine" last time i tried it, though nostr probably has more meaningful federation than forgejo does.

not aware of the ai scraper stuff landscape. i know that go-away and iocane exist but haven't had to use them.
@anemone @sun @xianc78 things that will never happen: just using xmpp for federated push/comment/etc :cat_sad:
@anemone @icedquinn @xianc78 let's try it, we're already collaborating on projects. if it doesn't work, in a month we shitcan
@sun@shitposter.world @icedquinn@blob.cat @xianc78@gameliberty.club i just gone w/ paid work so now i am fuckin around w/ personal projects and also high which has me thinking it would be pretty funny to have grok play openfarmgame
@anemone @icedquinn @xianc78 I need to add more "social" aspects to it, then we can unleash bot players
@anemone @xianc78 @sun its neat in theory but it has the same terrible UX that all decentraslop has and makes no attempt to fix any of it (like, again, all decentralsop doesn't.)

i think retroshare and toxx were the only ones who at least made the attempt. radicle seems fine that this is utterly useless for people that have to interact with the public.
@icedquinn @anemone @xianc78 @sun

You can tell the FOSS community has no good UI/UX designers by the way it's dominated by men lol

I don't want everything to look like bootstrap and all flat colors, but goddamn some of these projects are painful to even look at
@anemone @xianc78 @sun @subnetter i run my node in whitelist mode. although it doesn't allow me to whitelist "myself," and instead have to log in with ssh each time to add project keys.

there's closed projects but those are fully "secret." you're also supposed to be able to set which specific seeds you operate with (to, say, only check if your personal outpost is up to date and not public sites.) this didn't work very well and it kept trying to push things to the public depots.

its possible this is better now since ih aven't done a push in six months.
@icedquinn@blob.cat @subnetter@shitposter.world @xianc78@gameliberty.club @sun@shitposter.world it's not an individual thing but tbf there are more women in the ui/ux side of things I have noticed. they can also be bad though. for example, my employer's ux fucking sucks
@sun @anemone @icedquinn @xianc78 idk about graphic design but trans women are known for their contributions to computing and electronic music

Listen to the stuff Wendy Carlos was doing back then it's insane tbh, analog was a lot more hardcore everything is mostly digital now :bloboh:
@anemone @icedquinn @xianc78 @sun giiirl you a swe, you can do anything

Let me send you some stuff I saw another trans woman doing the other day, it was basically like programming music, the type of shit Aphex Twin was doing back then

Also if it makes you feel better I "used" to be a musician and now I have a job that makes me wanna KMS most of the time, so I should have just gone full "Whiplash" and done a conservatory' program like I always dreamed of :neocat_melt_sob:
@mischievoustomato @anemone @xianc78 @subnetter @sun https://strudel.cc/ if you really want to code it.

renoise has a strudel pattern thing somewhere now too

@sun @subnetter @icedquinn @anemone @xianc78

Programming music

Is this music to listen to while writing code, or code-generated musical composition?

ayo dem niggas with funny last names sure hold a disproportionate amount of power in media, academia, finance and government :animu_grin:
@subnetter@shitposter.world @icedquinn@blob.cat @xianc78@gameliberty.club @sun@shitposter.world i should try to learn something like that it would be cool to have some sort of understanding of how music works cause to me it just seems like magic lol
@sun @anemone @xianc78 @subnetter yeah those are fun. i made sure my linnstrument didn't get lost in the move. haven't tried learning to play it again this year :blobcatpain:

made a couple diddies on a dirtywave but otherwise uh. eh.
@anemone @icedquinn @xianc78 @sun @subnetter i did a lot of music with the singer i used to work with, but it was basically just playing with fx and their knobs until sounded well. surprised ngl
@subnetter @anemone @xianc78 @sun 'not a musician' can be anything from doesn't actually think in tunes or it could just mean you think its about being good at piano and just need to play with a sampler for a bit.
@subnetter @anemone @sun @xianc78 pianos are the same kinda tyranny to music that text files are to programming. plenty of people are bad at programming until you give them a ladder logic chart or an event sheet. then suddenly, they're not bad at programming.

music is this but usually a guitar. (samplers are hugely underrated now, though, because they mostly got eaten in to ROMplers. but the MPC created hiphop and an entire generation of musicians because 'put sound on button of my choosing' turned out to completely kill the skill gap.)
@anemone @xianc78 @sun @subnetter ux work is unglamorous, sometimes scientific, and everyone just ignores us anyway.
@anemone @xianc78 @sun @subnetter basically if you go to most projects and say "alright i've been talking to these six art streamers for the past six months, i've collated their complaints in to this neat package for you" they just go that's like your opinion man and/or "PR welcome" and leave.

they're not gonna do a damn minute more than what gives them the ADHD glory
@icedquinn @anemone @xianc78 @sun I'm playing into that stereotype about how all web devs, front-end devs are primarily women lol

Obviously I know it's not true, but the lack good of UI/UX design choices is especially evident with projects related to XMPP (only one workable client) and Matrix (several ugly clients)

@icedquinn Codeberg seemed like the least political out of all the GitHub alternatives (besides GitLab), but over time, that became less and less the case. They always had a ban on the promotion of National Socialism, but at least that has a clear definition.

@xianc78 srht was closer to that. codeberg has always been.. very left-winger.
@icedquinn @xianc78 it's good I didn't ever register on codeberg, but I never knew they had a relation to drew or srcht..

Things like this make me question if there's really a reason to not self host, given all the LLM scraping on labor platforms, and then political decisions
@subnetter @xianc78 the llm scraping happens either way it's just now you get to pay for it literally and with lost productivity being a subpar network admin.
@subnetter @xianc78 the politics is just general baseball at this point. FSF did a really bad job communicating the point (armoring the commons from capture, anti-enclosure) and the corpos have done a great job defanging it (RMS is problematic guys, only solution is MIT licenses [and not armoring the commons against us anymore guys] :drgn__w_:) and the left wingers would rather purity spiral in to irrelevance than commit to popper (the actual popper position which requires tolerating unpopular arguments that haven't escalated to direct system hostilities) so uh.

:comfystoner: idk
@subnetter @icedquinn @xianc78 well do we really need git anymore if we can just pair program with LLMs faster than you can review PRs? like instead of a PR it's more sane to just have a bug report system and have the LLMs fix it based on the ticket rather than spend the time to read some potentially insecure, potentially backdoored code

@icedquinn I saw a little left-wing bias in them, but I didn't see them as a problem. I thought they would be okay with someone who would be considered moderately right-wing like me, as long as I don't talk about idpol, but apparently not.

@xianc78 i no longer claim a political affiliation. legally speaking, i'm a cyberneticist now. :blobcatnomouth:
