There is a plethora of chat and conferencing applications. Some proprietary, some open source, some self-hosted, some not. And all these different projects do their own thing really well (or good enough), but have almost zero integration with each other.

This is spurred by my recent searches for an open-source, self-hosted Discord alternative. While I think Discord is great and does a lot of things good, the proprietary aspect and who funded it (TenCent) bothers me. Lookig for a replacement you ended up with services like Mumble, which is a teamspeak-clone, but does Voice just fine! Jitsi does an excellent job streaming and then there are like dozens of chat application that do chat. And there is nothing that really works well with gaming.

I am not sure what to do.. And I am afraid of being number 15 here.. (Ref: imgs.xkcd.com/comics/standards )
