XMPP has the old school cool vibe to it and does almost all the things Matrix does.
Maybe be edgy and look at Scuttlebutt?
SSB has no delete, is not practically multidevice, and encryption is not ratcheted like OMEMO

It's in it's infancy. If you check out the installation instructions of the server, it's shit tier raked together by a programmer high on meth. It's there, but so amateurish.
