the fact that there is such a variety in the stories of how men met their wives today is a pretty good sign that they don't contain much actionable information. they may be interesting anecdotes but you can't make a plan based on a bunch of anecdotes with few common threads

300 years ago damn near everybody in a given region met their spouse the same way. they probably lived within a few miles of each other, met at community events, and there was significant social support in getting the marriage off the ground

@deprecated_ii It was also a survival strategy, as you invested into the family asif it was a business. With offspring that needed to be cared for, nurtured, some decisions became strategic in nature. These in time turned into traditions, and people forgot why we had them in the first place.

Now everything is available for a small price, so dumb decisions can be dealt with, absolving all responsibility from the individual. Preggers? Abort. Single mum? Drain the state it's funds for welfare checks and let the bastard turn into some abomination upon society. Want more money? OnlyFans.

I still think freedom and liberty is good, and great. The shift away from the nuclear family however has ruined us all.
