Check the names you've heard of, let's talk about their ideas
@nukie I think I've been idealizing grifters, I don't want to turn into Grunkle Stan or Mr Krabs...
@bitterblossom That's fair
@prouddegenerate @rats Yea I found him adjacent to PragerU I think that's what lead me to him
@prouddegenerate I have always had an affinity for grift, when I was a kid I would look at grifters and my eyes would sparkle, and I would be taken in by the showmanship, and I would whisper to myself "dats what i wanna bee..."
@rats The only one I know is Shadman
@kallisti Me too, he shaped much of my worldview since I watched a lot of his stuff when I was in my mid teens
@kallisti Haven't read it yet, but I've listened to dozens of hours of him talking, all added up over the years
You could've used any female scientist and it's likely the outcome would been the same. Achievements of women are rarely celebrated.
I don't think it's due to some sort of nefarious institutionalized system. I think it's due to the fragile egos of those around them, who just happened to be mostly men at the time.
Everyone wants to fly into space, but nobody is celebrating Margaret Hamilton. 🤷♂️
@caustic_gnostic You didn't even look the motherfucker up HE is a MAN and HE is NOT trans. People can have odd names.
My mistake, I misread what you typed. My brain decided to insert a 'she' in there for no apparent reason. I didn't consciously go out of my way to misgender them.
Instead of making it a respectful teaching moment, just light into them.
Great approach.
@caustic_gnostic Your point was fair, but it had nothing to do with Shulgan tbh
To your point, I knew about the others simply because of how YouTube works.
You are correct, I didn't go digging about Sasha. You made it clear what they were most known for. Should I have looked anyway and questioned your claim, yes. Did I, no. I wasn't challenging your claim. I was just agreeing in my own, apparently misguided way.
My brain being half mush to begin with, forgets Sasha is a man's name in many places. Stacy is more common here for men than Sasha. 🤷♂️
@caustic_gnostic Ok I was too harsh, I get it
The one person no one knew, Sasha Shulgan, was a biochemist and researcher, and is who introduced MDMA to psychiatrists in the 70s.
