@arts @kallisti I see all these instances defederating us and I just think. why can't we just get along? AFIK no one has hurt anyone. honestly it's stupid. people should have the right to at least interact b4 anything happens. honestly its stupid.
@MischievousTomato @arts @kallisti I think the problem is also that we look like we carry a lot of rocks. like you calling people fragile faggot retards people see that message 'boom' they are gone! currently, I wouldn't say I like the words you use but I believe you to be a nice person. like people might be fragile but it's best not to look like you're coming with a bunch of rocks. that's just my take though.
@TrellisHugo335 @MischievousTomato @arts if you dont come at them with a bunch of rocks they roll you over
@TrellisHugo335 @MischievousTomato @arts the social culture in a lot of these places is essentially of extreme unproblematicness and i think that i'd get kicked off many instances pretty quickly for even talking about the things i talk about
@kallisti @MischievousTomato @arts How confident on a 1-10 scale are you in that you'd get kicked off?
@kallisti @TrellisHugo335 @MischievousTomato i can keep myself sterile enough to not get kicked off of places but i also wouldnt exactly be enjoying myself and if im being professional id rather be getting paid or getting something out of it at all

this is v much my natural state here and im 100% certain i would be kicked off yes
@arts @kallisti @MischievousTomato What about your natural state do you think you'd get backlash for?
@TrellisHugo335 @MischievousTomato @kallisti you and i know each other because this is a space where im allowed to talk to people different than me

on the list of reasons we've been blocked by other instances, frequently they explicitly say it's because we allow ourselves to talk to people they dont like
@arts @MischievousTomato @kallisti Hmm, wow that is concerning. know have you ever tried to be sneaky and look at their instances just to see what they are like? I'm honestly curious about what I could learn if I was on one of them.
@TrellisHugo335 @MischievousTomato @kallisti in the absolute best case scenario they are like people sharing diy projects/book clubs, in the worst they are just endless feeds of shitposts where the only joke people feel comfortable making is spelling words wrong
@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti I remember that from my Twitter and Tumblr days

It fucking sucked

the arts and crafts were cool though
@AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti i like arts/crafts, i like reading, but it's nicer to get really different perspectives on a given work than my own...

just more interesting to be presented with everything and i'm fiercely independent enough that i wouldnt accept anything else
@AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti it actually just occured to me that i think for the mastodon side there is "dignity" in cleaning up your instance so people don't see anything bad and over where we are there is "dignity" in never blocking anyone (because it's cowardly)
@arts @AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 rheres a mistaken belief that defederation serves to deplatform effectively
@kallisti @AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 an important thing for ppl to remember in the cases where you could say that deplatforming 'worked' eg. milo, that's because he was a person who was supported by the highly parasocial relationships present on the platforms he was operating on. getting him banned from twitter had a big impact because he had influence on a lot of people there - the same social dynamics truly do not exist here
@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti Because on Twitter you don't make friends, you build followers
Now sure it's still CALLED following over here
But there
It's more literal
@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti But of course, it's trying to move over here too, what with graf and garg and all the others trying to build their domains larger instead of outward, building walls instead of bridges
But we must resist
We must fight against the memetic scourge that plagues the internet and society
@AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @arts on a tangent i love memetics and ive yet to find a consistent argument against it
@kallisti @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @arts memetics and infohazards spook the hell out of me

Probably why I loved SCP
@AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @arts i dont mean the scp thing i mean the theory of information scp thing is based on
@AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @arts scp uses memetic as a word for conceptual: a memetic kill agent is a concept / perception that kills you

the theory of memetics is that ideas / concepts / notions / practices / beliefs / perceptions (condensed into memes) function akin to a species of life, and experience evolution and mutation
@AbNormal @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @arts different memes have different adaptations and forms that make them better suited for either adapting or dominating
@kallisti @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @arts yeah no I went all in on the weaponized memetics idea and kinda forgot about the base concept
@Jazzy_Butts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti @AbNormal for me thegame23 was more like anti-propoganda, or like, self-healing propoganda fractal, and the propoganda is for itself

federated qanon maybe

some hints to it here: http://www.cybergnostic.xyz/

it's its own thing, nightmare endless reality game

@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti @AbNormal the only "the game" I know of is where a person makes a circle with their fingers, and if you look at it they get to punch you, or "the game" where if you ask what the game is, you lost it.

@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti @AbNormal I looked it up and saw that it was a uh, a thing? And then I started laughing, maniacally, at all the people who have probably legit gone insane from this game, which I'm sure is a game about nothing, or if it's a game about something I'm far too busy already to care what it is, I'm watching old wonder woman episodes rn, wonder woman has to stop the Nazis

@Jazzy_Butts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti @AbNormal

> at all the people who have probably legit gone insane from this game

i stopped looking into it because i 100% knew i am the exact type of person that this sort of thing makes insane

you can find people constantly doing like 12 hour livestreams trying to make all the connections and who knows what is performance art and what isnt anymore
@arts @MischievousTomato @Jazzy_Butts @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti honestly that's why I stopped getting into it as much
Started getting to me

Then again I was not as well medicated at the time....

@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti @AbNormal It reminds me of these psychological experiments about group mentality. Plant a few people doing weird shit, and soon others will start doing it, you can even take the plants out afer a point and leave the organic population to ripple with this THING (whatever it is you've unleashed on them, this meme or idea that alters their behavior)
youtu.be/TrTk6DsEJ2Q

@arts @MischievousTomato @TrellisHugo335 @kallisti @AbNormal Another way to think about this may arise when I present this second example, of which I don't have a video for; A number of monkeys are in an enclosure, they cannot leave, they are fed and given water, but better food is placed on pedestals in the enclosure. When a monkey goes to the pedestal to get the better food, all monkeys in the enclosure are simultaneously shocked. They quickly learn to avoid the quality food. Now take a monkey out, and put a new monkey in with the group. It will go for the better food, but ALL THE MONKEYS WHO HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY SHOCKED WILL STOP THE NEW MONKEY. The new monkey will become averse to trying to get the better food not because it has been shocked but only from group enforcement. Continue this removal of an old monkey and replacement with a new monkey, gradually, and the monkeys will continue this enforcement of a cultural taboo, even when no original monkeys are left. They will enforce their cultural taboo, even when they have no idea why it was originally there.
