@rasterman @matrix
The sad thing is I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY don't give a single fuck about race. All I want is to get to the stars already.
I took my time to gather my thoughts, since I think this comment does in fact deserve a proper answer.
I did not mention star trek anywhere in my previous post. I get why you jumped to that conclusion, but I was focusing on a much more stressful fact.
THE END IS HERE
Inevitably... Sooner or later, there will be an event, after which we will no longer be able to create a proper colony outside of our planet. And that fact scares me to death considering, that we can do it NOW. We could be ensuring that the intelligent life will never completely disappear from this miserable existence, but instead we got to the point, some people no longer understand how human reproduction even works.
When we are on 2 planets, we can afford to lose one, but now we are at the end game, and it would be tragic if that second plague threw us into the dark age before we were able to do the ONE LAST FUCKING STEP...
@rasterman @matrix I have no idea
The problem is that the apocalyptic event could be anything. It could be gamma-rey, it could be bacteria, it could even be a nuke... But if we wait long enough, it will happen. It is statistical certainty.
It doesn't so much matter that you don't care. What matters the most is that others care.
Just like the libertarian who wants to abolish patents, not understanding that normals actually want to protect their IP; so goes for the colour-blind role model, in the long term defeated by the collective working together to further their genes at the expense of their individualist competition.
I sympathise with the stars aspiration. I'd personally prefer the aristocratic warrior space-faring civilisation rather than the Star Trek communist utopia.
...You do get to fuck lots of alien chicks, though.
