@p On Gab you can pin multiple posts. I check profiles before following and more than one pinned post is a good filter.

@LukeAlmighty @p @WhitesAdvocate @judgedread Gravitatory fields are vector fields. Which means that two masses can create gravitatory fields that, at some point in space cancel each other both in direction and strength. Those points in space are called "Lagrange Points". Things got more complicated with a Three Body Problem though since the gravitatory equations become insanely difficult to solve.
@LukeAlmighty @WhitesAdvocate @judgedread @p Between the Earth and the Moon there are only 5 places where the total gravitational field is effectively zero.
As for the reason, it's got to do with these being sweet spots for equilibrium in orbit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagrange_point .
