TL;DR: The government forces people to save for their own shit. They eliminated free healthcare, and instead "tax" citizens similar to FICA taxes, which force people to save THEIR OWN MONEY for health care, retirement, and general savings. Yes, the government taxes you and forces you to save your own money so you don't cry to the government later.
Paternalistic? Absolutely, but you can't argue with the results.
@wolfbro @LukeAlmighty The "taxes" you pay as actually forced savings. It's paternalistic, but reality proves that if you don't MAKE people save, they won't, and then they'll cry to the government for welfare. Forcing people to save their own money is VASTLY better than wealth redistribution via welfare. Singapore actually has lower average income taxes (based on median income) than the US.

@tfmonkey I'm aware, I get the policy; also, you have to keep in mind rent is expensive has fuck in Singapore. Then again, I only lived there as a very young child, so w/e. @LukeAlmighty
@LukeAlmighty Singapore is kinda dumb because you're taxed all to fuck, the government is kinda corrupt. Gay sex is technically illegal but — fun fact, you have to have two witnesses to confirm it happened. Also chewing gum isn't sold anywhere in Singapore. @tfmonkey
