Simple. Most people understand when they do or do not find something funny. Also these people are usually capable of surviving the blow of seing something they do not find funny.

Pigs at one point just ate our leftovers, but now that's no longer allowed and cows and other ruminants can eat the parts of plants that we don't use as well as grass, that grows fine on much soil that is otherwise useless.
Feeding them with corn is part of the corn demons plan.
