I have no idea what kind of IQ do you need to ask these questions, but yeah... some people are just not that bright.

They don't view it as such. Well, Yeah it's a game, but it's also platform to spread their ideals. If you were to mock them, their game or etc. you are, by proxy, mocking their ideals. Or even worse, them as personal- akin to a personal slight- since for some reason lots of people really like to internalize their personalities into ideologies.
