I'm sorry, but the Robotnik portrayal was really something done so perfectly. I still remember the ending of the first movie, and thinking: "fuck, he's serious with that line..."
I doubt animations would be able to portray such level of mad genius.
Also, the robot in 2nd movie would not feel so huge and scary, if it wasn't placed in real environment.

Well, they are kids movies and they are made in pedowood. I did not say they are good movies by themselves. But what I am saying is, that the character of Robotnik is something special.

So these live action adaptation movies only became good by a miracle, since the studio originally had a plan that they almost stuck to. I still have yet to watch them, but I'd be happy if they really are as good as you say.
