yes, you might recall I asked you exactly that the last time around. my motivation isn't to trick you or somehow lend legitimacy to an obviously wrong viewpoint. I'm asking you to examine your own belief system

if murder is bad, surely there is a reason for that? if you can't articulate the why then can you really trust anything you build on that belief?

there's almost nothing that I'm willing to take a priori

Do you believe, that morality should be deconstructed to physics based elements, or do you believe, that there is a core of several axioms, that should be taken at the face value?

@LukeAlmighty @dave @NEETzsche @salt @e wait WTF did this become it's own top level thread? sorry for the spam other tagged ppl JFC fedi is impressively buggy sometimes

@roboneko
I deleted my post, because I wasn't sure it was responding to your question. (because of your strange question formating.)

cc @e wait WTF we respect deletion requests here?!
shit goes missing, it's confusing

I think of this stuff like email. you send something off, it's been sent off. you can delete it on your end if you want but it's out in the world and that's that

ideally we'd all have native clients that retained local copies (as with email) or the server would maintain that for us (ie private inboxes) so that when something got deleted from the thread (aka mailing list or whatever) your personal copy remained. would solve the issue of servers broadcasting stuff that you don't want broadcast (ie you deleted it) but that was sent to other people

anyway in absence of things working at least as well as email (what a depressingly low bar :cry_konata:) ignoring delete requests is the next best thing. FSE and baest both do that, pretty sure other large instances do as well
another (unimplemented) option being to restrict deleted stuff to viewing by local accounts only. so at least you aren't broadcasting it

that would have the benefit of also keeping threads intact, such as what happened here
I don't like it, I find it assholish. I wouldn't like it if I accidentally posted something and then no one respected the delete, so I don't do it to others. I also don't agree with the "once it's out there it's out there" because there's different degrees of exposure. for example, poasters don't know what I'm saying because I'm defederated so it doesn't really matter what I say because it won't reach their ears.
I get that, see the stuff about native clients and private inboxes and such. you can't delete an email you sent but you might be able to delete it from a mailing list that publishes archives online

I guess my "logged in account" solution was incomplete. the hack to approximate email (without actually tracking what an account had seen) would be more like "logged in accounts older than deletion date" so that new accounts and remote people wouldn't have access
of course now that I mention it, I believe many mailing lists require you to personally contact a moderator to have stuff deleted. which is essentially how fedi works right now, just that stuff gets mirrored all over the place

anyway if revolver starts stuffing stuff in ipfs this will all be moot
oh also I should mention pushshift while I'm at it (and there are others as well). stuff posted to reddit is typically immortal in that sense. and there are equivalents for much of twitter. and etc
