" and men are assumed to die younger" is the important part.
The fewer births is just a spook. But a nice one, it got me for a second.

Am I correctly reading that you think it's BS that women are expected to live 6% longer than men? It's not, women do actually live longer on average.

I think, that it's bullshit, that in the EQUALITY measurement, they complain about shit, that men get better, but when a metrric shows, that men have it worse, they do say, that it should be that way instead, and include a bias to the expected "perfectly equal" score.
