Is Harry Potter an isekai

the wizards world is interconnected with the real one and it's not in another dimension, so no. Narnia's Chronicles could be considered an isekai
@RikaDerufu @LukeAlmighty You have an overly materialistic view of things. That the muggle world and the wizard world share the same space is largely irrelevant; normal people live normal lives in normal world, and Harry is whisked away from that and finds himself to be a person in a strange world, the wizarding world, which is spiritually distinct from the normal world. It is in shape and form if not in lore the same as any essential isekai like Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, or Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon.
eh i dont really agree, the world of Harry Potter is too connected with the real one to be isekai, a lot more than Narnia and Alice in Wonderland
@RikaDerufu @LukeAlmighty Next you’re going to say Star Wars isn’t an isekai 🙄
@LukeAlmighty @RikaDerufu Isekai means “person in a strange/different world.” It doesn’t have anything to do with how connected the world is, it’s just a different world, and the person could even be from another world and the different/strange world to them is ours (E.G. isekai like Dragon Maid, E.T., Elf, Enchanted)

In the case of Star Wars, Luke spent his entire conscious life on Tattooine, a literal world, before leaving his world to go to different/strange worlds. Isekai.

@SerfnUSA @RikaDerufu
Yes, but in case of Luke, it isn't as much a different world as a different "street", since he can travel literally as much as he wants. He also knew about the existence of the rest of the galaxy since childhood, so there is next to no "fish out of water" element.

@LukeAlmighty @RikaDerufu He knew of other worlds but is largely naive about them, serving the same narrative purpose as if he didn’t know about them at all. But I’ll give you it’s a grey area. A better example of that kind of isekai would be Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
sorry Serf, to me it's too generic and loose as a definition :/
@RikaDerufu @LukeAlmighty That’s fine Rika, you don’t have to be right about everything in life.
