to reform your life you have to start acting differently.
the actual effort to get a job, make stable reliable friends and the like might be lower for her, but the motivation goes in the other direction, so she will have a harder time actually doing it.

A mother can be single for plenty of reasons too, it's not like she did something horrible out of pure malice that she has to atone for. She may have just made a bit of a poor decision when choosing a guy to have a kid with. Hopefully it's a lesson learned. Lots of single mothers end up remarrying and having a good life. Bet you can't say the same about murderers. Most of them are probably gonna go right back to jail for something else.

Repentance is harder for those that get enabled by society, so they don't change and don't reform.
Repentance for murder on the other hand is pretty obviously encouraged.
