As someone who had the fortune of "3 parents", I can clearly see, that one of them was a fucking moral failure from the beginning, while the other two did their absolute best.

They ask something like "why are plants green". And you say it's because they need to be green to make food. "Why?" Because plants use a green chemical to make food. "Why?" Because everything needs food to grow. "Why?" Because, well, ok so to start there's this thing called the Law of Conservation of Energy... Eventually you get down to "JUST BECAUSE". Odds are you tap out before you make it all the way down to quantum mechanics with your 4 yr old. @eidolon @LukeAlmighty @dave It's not lazy. An 8 year old is not going to understand the psychological or hygienic reasons why living spaces need to be cleaned. But they DO understand authority. Kids are dumb, their opinion of their parents being retarded is also dumb. You're supposed to grow out of the childish frame of reference and realize "oh, my parents were actually smart, they were helping me the whole time". I was being literal when I said the companion assurance is "you'll understand when you're older". If you've got the time and ability to explain everything from quantum mechanics to subconscious stressors to an 8 yr old's satisfaction, please share your time-traveling magic with the rest of us. Also bring along the bookcase full of exhibits and practical experiments one must carry around for when the question arises driving down the highway.

Also, yes, some parents do have an authority. But they do have it, because they can earn it by their every day actions. If they cannot explain why cleaning your room is a good thing though, then I have no empathy for them once their kid loses the last spec of respect they used to feel towards them.
