Store cards are useful for companies as it tells them where something was bought, by whom, what it is, and when it was bought. This data informs them where to make pricing adjustments (offsetting) and that data may inform brands who may want to pay a premium so they get cardholder discounts, in addition to preferential placement on shelves (at front, usually). It's useful because they can maximise margins knowing it has an impact on what people buy. Some cards have apps that show personalised offers based on purchase history, coercing certain shopping habits such as buying things you don't need but are on discount (i.e. exploiting FOMO).
